1. DON'T DOUCHE 🙅
Douching might be the absolute worst thing you can do for your vagina. Your body naturally knows how to clean itself according to your own unique pH level, and chemicals (even water) can upset this natural balance.
2. DRINK LOTS OF WATER 🚰
It’s no secret staying hydrated keeps your entire body happy and healthy, and your vagina is no exception. Staying hydrated makes your period more comfortable and keeps you lubricated during sex.
3. DITCH THE TOILET PAPER 🧻
TP has tiny filaments that can attach themselves to your labia (the outer lips part of your vagina) and cause irritation. Instead, switch to hypoallergenic unscented wet wipes. While slightly more expensive, wet wipes will help you feel cleaner and more confident when it comes to your vagina.
4. LET YOUR VAGINA BREATHE 🛏
Head to bed without pants on or opt for cotton underwear. Either way, allow your vagina to release some of the moisture which can otherwise lead to irritation or infection.
5. NO SCENTED PRODUCTS, PLEASE 👃
The ingredients used to make products smell nice and pretty tend not to be the most natural. Scented products like sanitary pads, scented oils, bubble baths, bath oils, talc or powder can irritate the skin and cause infections.
6. STAY UP ON SCREENINGS 👍
The recommendations for how often to get a pap smear depends on your age and sexual activity, but following up with your OBGYN annually will keep you on the up-and-up. Staying up to date on your STI testing is also critical when you’re sexually active.
7. PRACTICE SAFE SEX 🍆
Using condoms, communicating with your sexual partners and following some best practices is incredibly important. Remember, just like with wiping, always go front to back to prevent against any infections. If you notice irritation, try switching to latex-free condoms.
8. LOVE YOUR LUBE 💦
Lube comes in handy in many different situations, and it’s important to try out the different types to find your favorite. There are all natural options including coconut oil or a silicone-based lube like überlube, which is one of our favs!
7. TALK TO YOUR DOC 👩⚕️
Vaginal health isn’t always a DIY situation. If you ever feel pain or are unsure about something going on down there, it’s important to talk to a professional. We recommend finding a physical therapist with a specialization in pelvic floor health.
8. EXERCISE YOUR MUSCLES 💪
Kegels are the best exercise to strengthen your pelvic floor. Kegels on their own naturally tighten your vagina and increase the intensity of your orgasms, but kegels with a weighted system like Kegelbell gives you faster, easier, more noticeable results.
